Great Brockhamhurst Stud and AI Centre 2008

Our aim is to get the mare in foal as quickly and easily as possible for the mare owner and we have the back up to help us do so. All veterinary work associated with Equine Reproduction will be carried out by Shotter and Byres Equine Veterinary Services, senior partner Michael Byres. All expenses incurred for visits, examinations and medicines will be payable by the mare owner direct to the Veterinary Surgeon at the end of each month.

Fees:

Boarding :

£5.50 per day at grass
£12.00 per day at grass stabled + £2 per day for foal in either case
£20.00 per day for stallions

Semen Collection Fees :

Dummy Training (per session) £75.00
Collecting Fee Fresh Semen £40.00 / collection
Collecting Fee Chilled Semen £50.00 / collection
Shipping Semen by Royal Mail £15.00

Please Note: A separate deposit Cheque for £25 to cover any ‘lost’ equitainer will be required prior to semen shipping and shall be returned on safe arrival back of same. Equitainers not returned within 7 days of dispatched semen will be deemed lost and deposit cheque cashed.

Grooms Fee: £25 per Natural Covering

In Foal Fee:
£75.00. For all mares leaving the stud scanned in foal to fresh, chilled or frozen semen, inc natural covering. This fee includes insemination costs and all the handling associated with the veterinary work. If a mare leaves before being scanned it will be assumed that she is in foal and the fee is payable along with the keep fees before she leaves the stud. If subsequently she is found to be not in foal before October 1st and a vet’s certificate confirms this, the £75 will be returned.

All in foal mares need to have a 28/30 day and 42 day PD scan to confirm a single viable and healthy pregnancy; if mares leave us before then it is the owner’s responsibility to arrange for this to be carried out.

  1. Insemination: Mares are taken at livery for natural covering/insemination with fresh, chilled or frozen semen, including semen that has been sent from elsewhere.
  2. Equine Viral Arteritis (EVA): We encourage all mare owners to have their mares EVA tested in 2008 before they arrive. We recognise that some may not be tested and we are not making it compulsory this season; we will be asking all mare owners to declare if their mares have been tested. Visiting Stallions must have and produce a Negative EVA Certificate before semen collection can take place..
  3. CEM: Mares arriving for natural covering must have a negative certificate before this can take place. This can be done here at the stud. Stallions must produce a negative certificate before semen collection can take place.
  4. Arrival Time: The best time for mares to arrive is just before they are due to come in season and they will then be constantly monitored to obtain the optimum timing for insemination or covering.
  5. Mares should arrive with a comfortable well fitting headcollar clearly labelled for them to wear for the duration of their stay.
  6. Mare Booking Form: all owners/agents are required to fill in and sign our form when they bring the mare to stud. If the mare is sent with a third party the form must be completed and signed before the mare arrives.
