Brockhamhurst Bantams

Welcome to our ‘Brockhamhurst Bantams’ page.
These little feathery friends are much admired by our visitors and very much a part of ‘the family’, that we felt it was time they had they own introduction and page on our site.
The bantam family mainly comprises of Belgium Bantams called ‘Barb Du D’Uccles’. These come in a multitude of colours and we are always seeking some new colours to add to our flock. Currently in resident are the lovely ‘Millefleurs’, the Porcelains, and the Black Mottled Varieties. These are all the same breeding just colour variations.

As you can see they go whiter with age almost like ‘Christmas puddings’ dusted with snow!

This breed of bantam is indeed a very friendly little bird, extremely addictive, ideal for those with young families and is absolutely perfect for the immaculate gardener as they create very little mess.
They are relatively easy to keep but do feel the cold and rain so require adequate shelter in these conditions.
Such is the demand for our birds it is hard to keep up the supply! We constantly have requests for birds and just to help those who are harbouring an itch to have a couple in their back garden here are some tips:-
They lay according to the light and seasons. - Therefore Christmas is not a good time to request hatching eggs.
We find they lay between mid March and mid October with time off in between to recoup the batteries!
We always have an incubator full with eggs throughout the season as they are notoriously bad at sitting on their eggs full term. - It takes approximately 19-21 days to hatch a batch.

We have birds available from approximately 9 weeks of age throughout the summer and these are sold on a first come, first served basis at the time they are ready to go, unless we receive a name, address and holding deposit.
By about Mid October we rarely have any birds left to sell and hatching eggs are probably a no no.

An Idea of Cost:
£ 1.00 per hatching egg plus £2.50 p&p
£20.00 – £25.00 per pullet depending on age.

The Brockhamhurst Bantam

The following pictures will probably have ‘professional’ bantam breeders and show producers in total horror; but here at Great Brockhamhurst, we are developing our own ‘special’ breed of bantams – ‘The Brockhamhurst bantam’ with a slight twist of ‘frizzle’ – where the feathers actually curl round on themselves.
They are the same size as the barb du d’uccles but with hit and miss colour and feather variations, are such fun to watch and breed. They in no way conform to any known breed and are totally our own mix and match.

We hope you enjoy!
